How to finish your summer on a high!
Aug 18, 2024Summer's not over yet - so don't get your head into 'back to school' mode too soon! We still have at LEAST a week before that Sunday evening feeling descends. So, decide you will make the most of this next week and finish off our summer (whatever the weather) in style.
I'm down in West Cork and have just said goodbye to all those who joined me on our most recent runners retreat on Bere Island. Even If you were not luck enough to join us, you can still carve out a mini retreat for yourself this week.
Commit to 30 minutes each day to yourself doing something that will make your summer feel like a success! That might be running ,walking, writing, reading, sleeping or even drinking coffee outdoors on your own each morning! I know you are busy, but only you can decide that this 30 minutes is more important than just ticking another thing off your to-do list!
A summer of memories : Those of you in our membership know all about making most of summer and I'm so proud of all our members have done this summer to make sure they have looked after their future self and celebrated the joy of the season - whatever the weather. It is such a tonic to log into the community and see all of your progress, updates and camaraderie. We are certainly carrying each other forward. If you are not in our membership be sure your are on the members waiting list for when it opens next.
While I am loving summer mode, I do have one eye in the future and that's all about our autumn planning. We are making a few changes for our autumn schedule and you can see here - our new class schedule and will launch some brand new virtual courses mid sept. We kick off classes first in September but booking is open now! Remember as a member you get 50% discounts in all our classes and programmes - and if you would like to try out a week of free classes on 1st week of sept, just send us a quick message and you can join in!
All the talk of back to school on the radio and tv ads this week reminds me of an article I wrote for The Irish Times a few summers ago where we really embraced this 'Sunday of Summer' and committed to making these august days really count. You can read back here - 4 things you can do on these end of august days! It should spur you on for making this week the peak of summer mode! Fish and chips west cork style here will definitely feature for me!
So whatever you are up to these last days of August - remember you might not be able to control all your days, but there is a moment in each day where you get to make a decide of whether you will move or scroll on the phone, meet someone or make excuses, stretch or sink in the couch. It's up to you. What one action can you do today that would make you proud of yourself. Go on and do it!
For me, it's a dip in the sea. If you don't know me well you know this was so far out of my comfort zone for many years. I'm no great swimmer, but a little and often has made it a habit and a very special memory for summer.
How will you remember this summer - your last chance to create those memories are this week. Go on, no one else can do it for ya! But it's always easier to do it with someone else. Pick up the phone and send a text to someone and arrange a date!
Here are all our autumn plans BUT...
Until then... enjoy the summer buzz from the Wild (and windy) Atlantic Way - from myself and my mini hiking buddy here. Even if it takes a packet of jellies as bribery to get us to the top!
