Autumn at ForgetTheGym

Aug 28, 2024

Are you craving a little bit of routine after a busy summer? I know I am, but I still want to hold on to that summer feeling of getting outdoors. At ForgetTheGym we have great optimism for an Indian summer and have lots planned for you :

All our plans for autumn

Membership Adventures : Wherever our members are based this autumn we are in their pocket - with our podcasts, meetups, classes, recipes and inspiration. It is like having a bunch of like minded fresh air buddies right whenever you need motivation, support and a gentle nudge in the right direction. The membership opens for one week at at the start of September so come join us. It is your only chance until February 2025! Here is what our members have to say about why they love the membership.

Back on the Beach : On 9th September we start a brand new 12 week term of running classes for women in Sandymount and Clontarf. If you need a kick out the door on a week night, we are just what you need. Classes for all levels and plenty chats, fun an fresh air thrown in. Sign up for autumn classes.

Beginners Running Programme : We have made a big new addition to our beginners running programme with offers a huge bonus to all who commit to joining us for September and October to build up from zero to 5k by Halloween. Guided every step of the way this programme can be done virtually but you can also come on Monday 7.30pm to Sandymount for added support and camaraderie. Beginners running.

Running Getaways and Retreats: We had two adventures to the stunning Bere Island this summer and an incredible adventure to the south of France in May. We have many attendees who come back each year it is so FAB. Great food, stunning scenery, wonderful company and a run or two along the way. In late autumn we will launch our 2025 retreats which will go to the same locations! Members will get priority booking and then we will share with wider audience if any place left.

Autumn Marathon Coaching : The buildup to Dublin Marathon (and indeed New York, Chicago and other autumn marathons is underway and our marathon coaching group are guided every step of the way. After 13 years of running this programme, we have seen it all. So these guys are in great hands - the nerves right now will change to self belief as the summer progresses. Wish them luck!  If you missed the start date, get in touch. Depending on where your training is at, you might be able to slot in.

Preparing for Beaujolais : Its not until November that we head to France but the groundwork happens in the summer as we get organised and excited for our running and wine getaway. Everyone signed up will get a monthly update this summer to help you plan well so you can make the most of our annual trip to the running and wine festival

Getting ready for 2025 : Despite attempting to live in the moment - we do also need to plan for the future so are getting organised for some exciting new events and adventures in the new year for members.

Writing and media : This was my first summer in a decade of not writing for The Irish Times and I took a break from writing over the summer but I am keen to get back at it soon. You might see some more blogs or maybe I'll finally get around to doing all those things I say I'll do when I've more time on my hands! Recently I've been on RTE Radio 1 on a few shows. If you need a little nudge out the door have a listen here to me on RTE Claire Byrne Show and also RTE DriveTime (24 mins into show).

Here's to a great autumn

We hope that wherever you are this autumn you can get outside, move, meet others and feel amazing. Get plenty fresh air (here's why) and remember that even just one run a week can make a difference (i've written about that here too).
