One Day Galway Getaway - The Perfect September Sunday

Sep 13, 2024

In need of a mini escape? So are we.

I've just booked a 4 seats together on the Dublin-Galway train for our full team of coaches and we can't wait! We are giddy thinking about it.  To have us all in one place is a rare occurence and you have a chance to come join us...

On Sunday 29th September we will board the early train from Dublin to Galway and make a weekend out of a day! We have put together the perfect adventure for a September Sunday.

Why Galway : For AGES we have been talking about going to meet up with some of the members of our ForgetTheGym community who live on the west coast of Ireland. They have travelled to Dublin to see us, but we have never made the trip west together.

The Wild Atlantic : To add more temptation, earlier this year, when Mary started dipping her toes in the ocean for the first time she recorded a podcast with Aisling - an open water swimming coach - who is based in Salthill in Galway. Aisling helps swimmers and non-swimmers enjoy being by the seaside and her ethos very similar to forget the gym! She invited us to join her on her home turf.. and how could we refuse!

So, the seed was planted, the draw to the wild west is real and now the time has come... We are off to Salthill in Galway....

Here is the plan :

8am : Train leaves Dublin for Galway. If you are not Dublin based, just join us at 10.30am. A bonus treat on the train to go with your cuppa - our Food Coach Dee will bring some homemade snacks for the journey!

10.30am : Arrive at Galway Train Station. Meet our Wild Atlantic members and our host Aisling. Aisling will take all our bags and we will walk/run/yoga and potter our way around the city and out to Salthill (5k ish distance). This run/walk will be broken up with lots of pitstops along the way. A great way to see the city and breath in the wild Atlantic air - all while having a good chat with our buddies along the way.

12 noon : Meet Aisling again in Salthill : Aisling will lead and an empowering and exhilarating blue experience in Salthill at the beach - to connect with yourself, the sea and the community around you. Whether you've never been in the sea, or you're a dipper or a sea swimmer everyone is welcome. We'll have a beachside chat about connecting with the sea and nature and how it can benefit your mental and physical health, we'll cover safety in and around the sea, a guided mindfulness and breathwork session and a dip from a sandy beach for those who'd like to dip their toes into the Atlantic Ocean.

1pm : After all that activity, time to go indoors and warmup and Chill out at the Ocean Fitness Sauna, Steam Room and Whirlpool at the Salthill Hotel, just across the road from the beach. This is optional, if you don't want to do this, join Mary and Dee for coffee and chats!

2pm : After a great morning of fresh air and fun, enjoy a lovely lunch and all the chats together at the Salthill Hotel.

3.30pm : Say goodbye to our west of Ireland buddies and wander back into into Galway either on foot or transport.

5pm : Train back to Dublin (or stay later and enjoy all Galway has to offer).
